San José ready to welcome the future stars of Pan American karate

The best young karate athletes in the Americas are gathering in San José, Costa Rica, for the 2026 PKF Cadet and Junior Championships. More than 1,000 athletes from 27 Pan American countries will compete across four days of competition.

The best young karate athletes in the Americas are gathering in San José, Costa Rica, for the 2026 PKF Cadet and Junior Championships. More than 1,000 athletes from 27 Pan American countries will compete across four days of competition.

The event, held from August 27 to 30, is another major step in the development of karate across the continent. It also puts the focus on the athletes who will shape the future of the sport in the Americas.

The size of the event also reflects the continued growth of karate at grassroots level. The strong participation from 27 countries shows the depth of young talent across the Pan American region and the work being done by national federations to develop the next generation.

Competition starts on Thursday, August 27, and continues through Saturday, August 29, with finals taking place at the end of each competition day.

The last edition of the event took place in Asuncion, Paraguay last year. With over 800 athletes from 25 countries competing, the United States topped the final medal table with a tally of 38 medals including 13 golds, followed by Brazil and Venezuela with 31 and 25 medals respectively,
