WKF President Announces Updates to Referees Access to Events Ahead of Karate One Premier League Rome

On the eve of the Karate One Premier League in Rome, all judges and referees came together for the Referee Briefing. Led by WKF Referee Commission Chair Javier Escalante, the meeting was headed by WKF President Antonio Espinós and Davide Benetello, president of FIJLKAM’s Karate sector.

The gathering focused on reviewing the latest rules updates and standardising judging criteria for the event.

Davide Benetello, president of FIJLKAM’s Karate sector said:

“This is a historic moment for karate in Italy. As this event brings together the best karate athletes in the world, it does the same with referees. Italy is always ready to make the most of history.”

WKF President Antonio Espinós praised the referees for their dedication. “I would like to thank the referees for their selfless contribution to the progress of karate. They constantly update their knowledge to keep pace with the sport, and these efforts are not always recognised. That’s why WKF is ready to revise the requirements for referees' eligibility in World Championships, to ensure their contribution is acknowledged and directly recognised by the WKF.”

The briefing underscored the vital role referees play in maintaining the integrity and quality of international karate competitions. As the Karate One Premier League gets underway in Rome, both athletes and referees are ready to deliver top-level performances, reflecting the sport’s global growth and commitment to excellence.
